“Must have sleep travel products for families” - Jade Zammit

Travelling is a big passion of mine. I love nothing more than taking my kids to new and exciting places. Although it is never a restful holiday, it certainly creates memories, fun and a much more care free time. I have two children, and we have done our fair share of holidays over the years! I have always wanted to make sure they got the sleep they needed, but also to find a way to balance that out so that we didn't compromise the plans and the fun side too. Whilst getting sleep right for the little one's is important - making memories is top priority. I am also for making travelling with little one's as easy, and as stress free as possible.

In this blog you'll find my best travel tips and helpful sleep products to bring you a calm, rested and stress free holiday.

1. Portable Bed Guard

Yes, these are a thing. Depending on your sleep set up on holiday, it might be that your young child may be sleeping in a bed. If they aren't used to this (or even if they are!) it can be strange sleeping in a new set up and being aware of space. I take this great bed guard on holiday for peace of mind, as often hotel floors are hard and our little one's falling on this could result in a nasty accident. This bed guard retracts, so it also fits in the bottom of a large suitcase and takes up minimum space! Highly recommend!

Just don't do what I did one year, and leave it behind in the hotel. I forgot to pack it back in the case and it didn't make it back home with us!

2. Snoozeshade

Snoozeshade buggy cover

This has to be one of my favourite products. I adore our Snoozeshade. Unlike many brands, this one isn't just breathable fabric, but also air permeable which means it also circulates too. This has been a saviour on holiday, and at home for the school runs! It creates a lovely, safe, dark environment. I'd still of course nap them in the shade (for the cooler environment, this also has UV protection when on the go!), but this makes things so easy. Not only during the day, but it also means that at night you have a sleep space if you are out and about and not ready to head back to the room!

3. Portable Night Light & Sound Machine

Whether it be that your little one feels more comfortable with a night light, or you need that light to support in the settle during the night, then I recommend a portable light takes place in your case! I also recommend a red light over any other colours, as red lights don't hinder their melatonin production like blue/white night lights do!

The Zello Portable Light and White Noise machine is perfect for on the go, with 20 hours chargeable USB battery life and a handy hook for on the buggy - it makes a great travel companion!

4. Bring home comforts

Many babies are comforted by their environments and familiarity. So, creating that environment somewhere else can be soothing for the little ones. For example, take their favourite books, slept in bedding (to keep the scent of home) and favourite teddies/comforters.

5. Calm and Noise Free!

If your little one is very sensitive to sound, these can be a great option for drowning out the noise on the aeroplane and elsewhere. We have all been on the plane with the party crowd nearby whilst trying to get bub to sleep! The Alpine Muffy Baby Ears are adjustable, and protect little one's ears from loud noises, allowing you to keep them calm, secure and contented in your journey.

6. Portable Black Out Blind

The Tommee Tippee Blackout Blind has also been our saviour in the past. Especially for caravan holidays in the summer where their room gets so bright at the very early hours! I cannot recommend this enough, for at home and for travel! Great for keeping them feeling contented and secure in their environment, but also avoiding those early rises and bedtime battles.

And yes, sleep is important on holiday and we want to make it as stress free as possible for everyone. Here are some final tips:

  • It might be that your usual sleep routine and timings change, and that is OK too! The travelling, heat and swimming will also take it out of the, so allow them that sleep top up and push bedtime out if you need to.

  • If your little one doesn't currently do well sleeping on the go, then I'd also recommend working on this well ahead of the holiday to help in their adaptability!

  • It might also be that their settle to sleep changes a little too. Try to keep consistency where you can, but if it falls apart a little then it all comes down to getting back on track once you are back home!

  • If you are tackling a big time difference, try to adjust their naps and bedtime over a few days to alter their little body clocks.

Enjoy your travels, and remember to enjoy every minute of it! You'll regret stressing over sleep, but you'll never regret making memories.
